Denault, Laura


Laura Denault was born to Edward P. and Nora (Riordan) Flynn. She was born in Salem and grew up in Danvers. She lived in Topsfield from 1948 to 2009.

 

Mrs. Denault was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant while serving as a purchasing agent on a Marine Corps Air Station in the Mojave Desert. She attended Boston University and further pursued her education at the University of New Hampshire earning a degree in Library Science. She was Assistant Librarian at the Topsfield Town Library for 13 years

 

As a civilian, Denault was active in many areas. She was an organist at St. Rose of Lima church for over 40 years. Later, she also played piano at local nursing homes, including Masconomet Healthcare. She served as Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 1998 and 2002. She was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteer and member of the Topsfield/Boxford Community Club, and she taught exercise classes at the Council on Aging. She volunteered as a charter member of the Topsfield Writing Class, and also offered her time as a volunteer at the Stewart School Kindergarten. In 1980, Denault was awarded Woman of the Year by the Topsfield Grange. She received the Silver Tree and Silver Dove Awards from the Council on Aging for outstanding service to senior citizens

 

Laura and her late husband Charles R. Denault owned a hardware store in Georgetown.
