Dorothy A. (Beatrice) Riley was born July 6, 1924, in Peace Dale, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of the late Armand and Alice (Motroni) Beatrice.
Dorothy graduated South Kingstown, Rhode Island High School and went on to graduate from the Rhode Island College of Education. Mrs. Riley continued her education at Salem State College, earning a master's degree in education. She was a first-grade teacher in Naragansett; at the Winthrop School in Ipswich; the Proctor and Steward schools in Topsfield.
Dorothy married Joe Riley in 1948. They lived on Essex Road in Ipswich until 1970, when they moved to Carriage Way in Topsfield. They moved to Great Hill in Topsfield in 1999.
Mrs. Riley was active with the Ipswich Women's Club, Catholic Women's Club, and served five terms as president of the Ipswich VFW Post No 1093 Auxiliary, and two terms as president of District No. 14. She was also the past president of the Topsfield Teachers Association and a board member of the Topsfield Friends of the Council on Aging. She was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Ipswich, and was currently an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield.
Mrs. Riley passed away on February 24, 2007, at the age of 82, survived by a brother, Joseph J. Beatrice of North Kingstown, R.I.; two sisters, Mary J. LaMarque of Peace Dale, R.I. and Irene H. Forbes of Narraganseett, R.I.; a cousin, Mary Farraro of Wakefield, R.I.; several nephews; and a niece. She is interred at Pine Grove Cemetery in Topsfield.
