Towne-Treadwell Walking Path and Sign

Page history last edited by abrandenburg@mvlc.org 6 years, 6 months ago

Towne-Treadwell Walking PathThe Towne-Treadwell Walking Path and Sign is located at the intersection of Salem Street and South Main Street in Topsfield, MA.  The granite bench and historical marker are placed near property once owned by William Towne and Joanna Blessing Towne in the 1600s and the Treadwell Farm (now the location of the Topsfield Fair).

The idea of a walking path to improve pedestrian safety along South Main Street originated with the Topsfield Main Street Foundation.  The Towne Family Association (TFA) became interested in the project because of its location and allocated funds to pay for the bench and marker.

The ribbon cutting for the Towne-Treadwell Walking Path and Sign was held on September 25, 2011.  In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Jean Towne of the TFA and Janet Kmetz and Kim Philpott of the Topsfield Main Street Foundation.  Arthur Towne gave a speech at the opening ceremony.
